Abstract: Magnetically actuated robots have recently emerged as an innovative solution for remotely controlled task completion, in partially accessible or inaccessible environments. This technology has a wide range of applications from micro- to macro-scale, such as microfluidics, drug delivery and minimally invasive diagnosis and surgery. Despite of their high potential value, some difficulties arise in generating strong magnetic fields in large environments (e.g. medical applications), visionless sensing and control. This talk introduces innovative control and sensing solutions for magnetically actuated robots, with wide application opportunities. The application to medical robotics is presented and discussed.
